Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing

The Institute of Product Design & Manufacturing or IPROM was formally instituted in Universiti Kuala Lumpur on 24th July 2006, when the institute moved to UniKL’s City Campus in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

The Institute is headed by a Dean and staffed by
academics that include experienced personnel from the industry. The Institute was also designated as the "Centre of Excellence for Product Design" by Universiti Kuala Lumpur in line with the government’s plan to move up the manufacturing value chain (manufacturing ++) by producing locally designed goods and products.

Currently the
IPROM offers six (6) degree programmes leading to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons ) award or in short BEngTech (Hons). The programmes are BEngTech (Hons) in Product Design, BEngTech (Hons) in Industrial Design, BEngTech (Hons) in Tool and Die, BEngTech (Hons) in Manufacturing Systems, BEngTech (Hons) in Business Management and BEngTech (Hons) in Supply Chain Management.

The
programmes foster aesthetics, design, analytical and manufacturing skills necessary to effectively design and develop creative and innovative products. It also incorporates conventional and up-to-date know-why and know-how in production and manufacturing processes. By combining a sound manufacturing base with a carefully designed curriculum, the graduates are trained to conceive and develop innovative & creative designs. These could then be turned into manufacturing reality and profitable products for the highly competitive and global market.

Presently, IPROM’s main academic programmes are centered at Universiti Kuala Lumpur City Campus while workshop facilities
with heavy machineries are located at UniKL MIAT Campus which is located about 30km from Kuala Lumpur. IPROM is expected to move to its own campus currently undergoing renovation in Cheras by end of 2009.
